Design | 8bit Dunks

Summary:
8bit Dunk, a personal design exercise born out of my passion for vintage 8-bit video games and memorable, gravity-defying basketball dunks, led to the creation of "8bit Dunks." This project captures iconic dunk moments in a unique 8-bit style, transforming them from traditional square pixels to circles, echoing the shape of a basketball.

Innovation & Design:
Each poster and digital wallpaper reimagines legendary dunks with a retro gaming twist. The design process involved breaking down each dunk into a simplified 8-bit form, effectively blending the nostalgia of vintage video games with the exhilaration of basketball's most iconic moments.

Featured Dunks and Players:

  • Michael Jordan: Legendary free-throw line dunk, Chicago, 1988

  • Julius Erving: Dunk against the Nuggets at The Spectrum, Philadelphia, 1977

  • Dee Brown: No-Look Dunk, 1991 Dunk Contest

  • Kobe Bryant: Dunk against the Detroit Pistons, Game one of the 2004

  • Dwight Howard: “Superman” dunk, 2008 Slam Dunk Champion

Content:

  • Digital Wallpapers

Design Work:
All design work for the 8bit Dunks project was created by myself, Jarek Carethers.
